In the Works: Yellow and Gray Master Retreat

I thought I'd put together a quick compilation of one of my latest design projects that is still developing, a master bedroom retreat for a young, professional couple. I am enjoying the fresh burst of yellow in this project, and the way it pops off of the gray tones that I decided to use in the couple's bedroom. The color scheme is lovely, and young, just like my clients.

Hickory White 565-21

I am so happy with the bed we decided to use. I like the romantic flare of the headboard. It will be upholstered in a similar gray fabric, a textured weave with a metallic thread.

3611 Chaise

The chaise lounge compliments the angular lines of the headboard while also mimicking its flare. It will be upholstered in a bold yellow, like to the color tone below.

We also know that we will be wallpaper one long wall in the room as an accent, and the other three walls will be painted. We haven't selected a paper or paint color yet, but here is one that I think would work nicely. The geometric pattern and varied hues will give the long wall depth and interest.

I will keep you posted on how it turns out.

In the works: serene living room

Lately I've been working with a client designing her living room from scratch.  As an interior designer, often I need to integrate existing furnishings that my clients would like to include in their renovated space, which can sometimes be a challenge. Starting with a clean slate can be just as fun for designers as it is for clients, because together we can create a whole new look, completely transform and update the appearance and feel of room.

Here is a little taste of what I'm working on for this living room:

The color enthusiast that I am, I began by developing my design concept.  I will be presenting 3 color schemes and have selected a number of fabric options to illustrate my concept to my client.

1.  Sage green walls with white trim.  I would use fabrics in blues, greens, and creams.

2.  Taupe walls with cream trim.  This would be a  monochromatic scheme with mostly taupe and sage green fabrics.

3.  Gray walls with white trim. Fabrics would be in various grays and blues, with a raspberry pop.

Which scheme would you chose?  I think I know which one is my favorite....:)

Next project in the works

I'm working on a bathroom renovation for a client. Even though they can be a tight space, there are so many design opportunities in any bathroom. I like to start with an inspirational image. The two below are current faves:

Cottage or contemporary, both bathrooms are simplly designed, but tastefully thought out. Details like the aged brass faucets in the cottage bath, and the the wood storage niche on the tub face add to the creative wow factor of each room.

Next, I like to find my tile and hard surface materials. I always visit Discover Tile in the Boston Design Center.  They carry a good assortment of a variety of tiles in a range of colors and styles. Right now, their artisan tiles (similar to the image below) are catching my eye, however, for my current reno project, we decided to go a more contemporary route, with linear tiles in grays, blues, and tan.
Designer Bath has also always been one of my go to resources for bathroom decor.  They have a huge range of product lines. This faucet is from one of the product lines they carry. I like the idea of a wall mounted faucet. They are so much easier to keep clean, and don't take up precious counter space. This one is classic and will never go out of style.
Another line they carry, this pedestal sink is so sculptural!

As you can see, I have my eye on a lot of different styles right now. There is just so much good stuff out there!  But it makes it fun when designing for a client because I can pick and chose my favorite pieces depending on their style. I regret that I haven't been to the site yet to snap some current pictures, so the reveal will have to be a surprise in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
