Floral Colors and Patterns

jeremykalin.com
Spring is here...or is it?  When the weather forecast continues to bring us cold temperatures,
bring the flowers inside as in the exuberant living room above.  Florals are a current trend that
has come to home design from the fashion runways in Paris.  I have always liked beautiful colors
in my interiors and this room is a "knockout"...just like the carefree roses everyone is planting now.
There are actually no flowers in the fabrics above but their pastel colors come right from the garden.  The same effect can be seen in the cheery child's bedroom below.

A traditional approach to florals in home design can be seen in the muted settings below.  Toiles
have a timeless appeal and usually cover furniture and window treatments,  as well as walls.  Popular
for centuries, they still create beautiful spaces today.

Current floral trends offer a dramatic look with bolder colors and vivacious patterns.  In the photo  below,  a sophisticated and contemporary dining room is energized by the gold floral pattern on the
wing chairs.

I love the drama in the following photo where the unusual window treatment defines the space
and the giant red flowers are fun and exciting.

The elegant bedroom below is very neutral in color but offers a glamorous look with the stylized floral wall pattern that creates a brocade effect.

I like the high contrast effect of the fresh green fabric used as a background color in the living room below.  This floral fabric ties the whole room together and makes the white furniture pop.  In the white kitchen, another green and white floral fabric offers an accent of color and softens the hard surfaces...just like a bouquet of flowers.

Blue is everywhere this season and wallpapers have come back as a design element.  I like the
variety of blue floral wallcoverings in the next three photos.  Each one creates a totally unique vision
that shows the versatility of floral patterns.

I enjoy using florals in a single pattern as in the red and white living room.  And, I love the creativity
of mixing different patterns as in the blue and red bedroom.

Sometimes florals can be used sparingly in a few pillows to brighten a solid color sofa as in the
photo below.

How beautiful is the living room in the last photo where floral patterns are used harmoniously throughout the space on the upholstery, carpet and mirror frame.  It reminds me of a walk around the garden.
